Un bon implant ne peut se concevoir qu’à travers une grande compréhension de la physiologie de l’os. Les tissus osseux sont destinés par nature à supporter des charges et il existe une relation intime entre la charge supportée par l’os et sa structure. La nature est économe et tend à rejeter tout os qui ne serait pas utilisé de la meilleure façon pour conserver voire augmenter l’os qui subit une stimulation mécanique. Pour conserver l’os, les implants Astra Tech ont été conçus pour stimuler mécaniquement l’os environnant.
Pour éviter que ne se produisent de fortes concentrations de contraintes au niveau de l’os, les implants sont pourvus d’éléments rétentifs sous forme de filetage et d’une surface dont la rugosité est bien définie.
