What are intra-operative & post-operative autologous blood transfusions?

Simply put, this is when the blood you lost during (intra-operative), or immediately after your operation (post-operative) is collected, filtered and given back to you.

This is particularly useful in knee, hip & spinal surgery, since most blood is lost during, or in the hours immediately after surgery.

Now, in consultation with your doctor, you can choose in advance to have your own blood given back to you, rather than someone else’s blood.
