Advantage LoFric

Not being able to empty your bladder in a natural way is of course a problem. You need to find the best solution possible. For many people, LoFric catheters means assurance, security and improved quality of life.

A slippery surface layer
LoFric, a longed-for product
LoFric's unique strength and advantage is that it has a surface layer that can bind and retain a large quantity of water.

By soaking the catheter in water before using it, water is collected on its surface. This allows it to slide smoothly and easily into the urethra.

LoFric's slippery surface remains slippery during the entire emptying process ensuring that no damage is done to your urethra. This surface layer is so unique that it is protected by a patent, Urotonic Surface Technology.

A longed-for product
The method of emptying your bladder by using a catheter at the moment the bladder needs to be emptied has been around for hundreds, actually thousands, of years.

Before LoFric was introduced on the market, only plastic catheters without coating were available. Instead, different types of lubricants were applied to the catheter's surface to protect the urethra during catheterisation. However, these lubricants didn't reduce the friction enough. The gel tended to disappear from the surface of the catheter when it was inserted, while the entire procedure was also smeary and messy.

In order to reduce friction, the hydrophilic catheter LoFric was developed in the early 1980's. This represented a great step forward. Today, it is a very well-documented catheter and gives you a significantly reduced risk of complications, both in short-term and long-term use. The friction on the urethra with this catheter is much lower than with a regular catheter lubricated with gel.
