Wheelchair Basketball

Astra Tech are very pleased to be sponsoring the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) with the aim of encouraging and supporting the junior segment in wheelchair basketball.

Astra Tech Junior Challenge
Working closely with the IWBF and the local organisations, in our case the Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Association (GBWBA), Astra Tech are sponsoring an annual tournament for the junior team. This is called the Astra Tech Junior Challenge and will be held in a different participating nation each year.

Benefits for increased life quality and health
In response to the sponsorship, Christian Thorup, Astra Tech’s Head of Market Communication said:

'Sponsoring this IWBF Europe initiative aimed at getting more young people active within sport is definitely within our sphere of interest. The more kids who get the chance to develop within sport, the greater the benefits for increased life quality and health. At Astra Tech we want to contribute what we can to this'.

Belgium v Germany final
The first tournament took place on the 1st – 4th May, in Quakenbrück, Germany with four countries participating, Germany, Belgium, Great Britain and Italy. The standard of play was extremely high, making all the games very fast and exciting to watch.

In the semi finals, Germany beat Italy and Belgium defeated Great Britain to set up a match between Belgium and Germany in the final. Despite 35 points from Belgium’s Lorenzo Boterberg, Germany came from behind to win a dramatic final 65:61.

Home win!
The final results placed Germany as overall winners, followed by Belgium in second place. Third place went to Great Britain and fourth to Italy. All the teams played extremely well and thoroughly enjoyed the tournament!
