Astra Tech challenges the current standard in marginal bone maintenance and sets a new standard implying only 0.3 mm of bone loss for a successful implant. Also, Astra Tech launches Atlantis™, a unique method of producing patient-specific abutments based on the appearance of the final tooth, in Europe.

“Follow-up research among patients consistently shows a marginal bone level reduction of just 0.4 mm or less for Astra Tech dental implants, a performance indicator at least three times superior to the industry norm. The findings involve hundreds of individual cases and are remarkable in their consistency,” says Lyndon Cooper, Professor of Dentistry in the Department of Prosthodontics at the University of North Carolina, who has performed one of the studies.

3M ESPE and Astra Tech AB, a leader and innovator in the dental implant industry, announce a global partnership to provide Astra Tech’s Atlantis™ patient-specific abutments to 3M ESPE Lava™ customers. The two companies have developed an interface which will enable the Lava™ Scan ST Design System to communicate directly with Astra Tech’s Atlantis technology.

The Swedish medical technology company Astra Tech AB, a subsidiary of AstraZeneca, is purchasing the US dental company Atlantis Components Inc. for USD 71 million in cash (approx. SEK 500 million). This business deal is part of Astra Tech’s growth strategy.

Astra Tech, a subsidiary of the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca, is continuing its expansion in Mölndal, Sweden. On June 14, a new international research and training center will be officially opened. The investment totals SEK 220 million. Approximately 2,000 dentists from all over the world will come to the new center annually for training in the latest implant technology. In conjunction with the focus on research and training, close collaboration with the Institute of Odontology at the Sahlgrenska Academy will also be established.
